Beschreibung

Primary Sources
Description
Anonymus 013 (W) was Bruckner’s most prolific copyist from approximately 1886 until 1894. The earliest Bruckner sources in his hand are probably his scores for the first version of the Eighth Symphony. He has also been identified in the 2014 Critical Report (pp. 232–235) for the Eighth Symphony as Anonymous 8/1. Thomas Röder’s Critical Reports for the First and Third Symphonies indicate that A-WnMus.Hs.3192, 6028, 6056, 6081 and A-KR-C56-9d almost certainly date from the late 1880s.
Not only did Anonymus 013 (W) copy scores, along with Leopold Hofmeyr, he also prepared bifolios with instrument names and bar lines, leaving the measures empty for the composer to fill in for revisions for the second version of the Eighth Symphony. Similar pages are found in Bruckner’s sketches for the first three movements of the Ninth Symphony. Whether the copyist prepared these specifically for the Ninth, or they were left over from work on the Eighth, is not known. Working on revisions for the Eighth Symphony, Bruckner sometimes wrote in the revisions himself and left unchanged staves and measures for Leopold Hofmeyr or Anonymus 013 (W). Perhaps because their hands appear so often in the same sources, Leopold Nowak misidentified Anonymus 013 (W) as the copyist of A-Wn Mus.Hs.3192, 6028 and 6056.
It is unlikely the two copyists ever worked together because Hofmeyr was in Steyr, and Anonymus 013 (W) was almost certainly in Vienna. Anonymus 013 (W) may have worked with other as yet unidentified copyists who wrote sections of movements with his hand. Anonymus 073 (W) wrote mm 169–end of the Finale in A-WnMus.Hs.34615 that Anonymus 013 (W) started, and the latter finished the Adagio of A-WnMus.Hs.34614a, the first 200 bars of which were written by Anonymus 074 (W).
